I Feel Happy and Sad and Angry and Glad

Look who is visiting!
Hi Ellie!
Hello, Milo!
I feel HAPPY.

We play explorers.
We feel BRAVE.

Where is Ellie hiding?
Ellie?
I feel PUZZLED ...

Milo and Ellie are two little dogs whom are good friends. They have a play date at Milo's house and like many play dates, the two puppies have happy times, angry times and sad times.

I Feel Happy and Sad and Angry and Glad is a toddler story book for young children identifying emotions and a tool for parents explaining the feelings of happy, brave, puzzled, scared, glad, kind, excited, proud, angry, hurt, jealous, lonely, ashamed, sad and shy.

Introducing emotions to young children is an important part of a child's development. Preschoolers experience a wide range of emotions like us, but are not always able to identify or control them. Teaching young children about emotions will help them expressing their own in a more positive and productive way. It will also help them to understand others' feelings and show empathy when someone is sad.

While reading story book like this, it is always useful to ask your children, "If you were Milo, how would you feel?" Let the children talk and express their feelings. From this exercise, your children will also learn to understand others' feelings in return.

To You With Love

"Children pick up words as pigeons peas, and utter them again as God shall please."

Like so many parents, Nanette Newman was often amazed at the perception in what one of our small ones had said. We would say "I must write that down" or "I'll always remember that", but more often than not, we didn't, and many of the sayings were lost forever or drifted away beyond memory.

It was this idea that made Nanette Newman decide to gather together the sayings from family and friends' children and spread the net wider with the help of schools and hospitals into this book To You With Love.

To You With Love is packed with wise, funny and often thought-provoking comments that give us a keener insight into the children's world.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Long ago, there was a girl called Snow White.
Snow White was pretty.
She lived with her father, the king, and her stepmother, the queen.
The queen was pretty.
But not as pretty as Snow White.

(Let your child read)
Snow White was pretty.

I am sure most of the readers here are familiar with the story Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. My purpose here is not introducing the story, but this book by the Bright Sparks First Readers series.

Bright Sparks First Readers are especially designed, closely linked to recognized learning strategy to help young children achieve success in their early readings.

It helps beginner readers to enjoy their favorite fairy tales with parents reading the main story on the left-hand page and the child reading the short, simple sentences on the right.

When the child is ready, encourage him to join in with the main story text.
Shared reading is the first step to reading alone.

The Little Giraffe

Once, there was a little giraffe.

He was the first giraffe in the world.

He lived in East Africa ... with his best friend, Rhino.

The Little Giraffe is a folktale from East Africa about the first giraffe in the word, how it became tall after meeting the wise man.

It is in the Usborne First Reading series Level Two, written especially for children who are learning to read and ready to tackle more complicated storyline and sentence structures.

My girl first read this story at four and keep reading it again and again. The storyline is outrageously magical in her eyes.

My Very First Art Book

To start drawing, you just need a pencil and a little imagination ...

Monkey
Start by drawing an oval for the body and a smaller oval for the head ...
Add arms, legs and a curly tail ...
Add circles for ears ...

This fantastic book is filled with real works of art and lots of ideas to help my little one creating artwork everyday.

The book is cleverly designed, including real art work to illustrate each topic. Start out by drawing, then painting, printing, cutting and making models, the techniques used are simple, easy to follow and inspiring.

Olivia Goes to Venice

It was time for spring vacation. Olivia decided that she and her family ought to spend a few days in Venice. There was a lot of packing to be done.

"Olivia, you won't be needing your snorkel", said her mother, "or your flippers."

"Mother, apparently the city is often under water and ----"

Both geographically and artistically, Olivia Goes to Venice is an adventure for my girl. Charcoal and gouache illustrations and photos of the city popped up from white pages, the beautiful Venice is never too far away from imagination.

Olivia takes her discerning eyes to the beautiful Venice. Bridges, the Grand Canal, Piazza San Marco, the gondola ride and the numerous gelatos that Olivia consumed made this humorous and educational.

Ugh! Icky, Sticky, Gross Stuff in the Hospital

Hospital Draculas ...
Did you know that there are people at hospitals that do nothing but go around taking blood from people?

Archeologists have found evidence that brain surgery was done thousands of years ago in Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia.

Some people are grossed out by the sight of blood and a trip to the doctor's office for a checkup.
Others love a good trip to the emergency room and like to watch when the needle goes into their arms for a shot!
This is a Medical Science 101 book for the little scientist to  meet the Hospital Dracula, Scalpels and Stitches, Germy Stuff, Body Parts and how the patients going potting with a bedpan.

Stanley the Stinkbug Goes to Camp

Camp Bug-a-Boo buzzed with busy bugs.

This year Hermie the caterpillar and his friend Wormie were counselors ...
Meanwhile, Stanley waited to catch the last bus to Camp Bug-a-Boo.
"Oh, it's going to be awful," he said to himself.

"Why did I promise my mom and dad I'd go? I'm afraid no one will like me because I stink."
Stanley's eyes filled with big tears. "God, why did You made me stinky?"

Max Lucado is a Christian writer. He has a book and video series named Hermie and friends especially designed for children, with one common theme, Everyone is special in the eyes of God. This is a story about friendship and learn to appreciate each other's difference and uniqueness.

The story started with the setting at the garden's Summer Camp. There's a problem with a newcomer, Stanley the stinkbug, he stinks.
Everyone in the Camp tries their best to put up with the unusual odor, but things don’t go so well. But then God helps the summer camp to realize that the reason Stanley stinks is because he's afraid and the thing he is most afraid of is others not liking him and accepting him the way he is. Our garden friends soon learn that God created each of us for very special reasons and that, even though Stanley is different, they need to show him love.

You don't have to be a Christian to read this book.

This is an inspirational book for children from ages 5 and up. I recommend parents read this together with children and use it as a tool for discussion.

Max Lucado's Hermie & Friends series is also available on DVD:

Words Are Not for Hurting

Do you know it takes only 26 letters to make millions of words?

You know lots of words.

Who listens when you talk?

Your family, your friends, your teachers ... And pets too.

This is a great book among Elizabeth Verdick's Best Behavior series, especially for children between 4 to 7 while building up vocabularies and increasing awareness of how much words matter.

The book highlights the power of words, why children should take responsibility for what they say, as well as thinking before speaking.

It also illustrates the connection between hurtful words and feelings of anger, sadness, and regret. And the solution of using simple, yet powerful phrase, "I'm sorry!" to help.

This is a great coaching tool to teach children why words matter and how to use them in a positive way.

I strongly recommend this book to every child from K2 and up.

Boo! Made You Jump!

I have this little sister, Lola
She is small and very funny.
I am always making her jump ...
But she can NEVER make me jump.

So Lola says, "But I really want to make you jump, Charlie."
And I say, "Okay, Lola, but that will NEVER happen."

Charlie and Lola are characters created by Laura Child.
Lola is an energetic, imaginative little girl; Charlie is a patient and kind older brother who is always willing to help Lola learn and grow.

In this book, Boo! Made you jump!, Lola tries everything she could think of , including dressing up like a creepy ghost, telling a really scary story in order to make Charlie jump. But it doesn't seem to be working. Will Lola ever make Charlie jump?

This is a fun book for my five years old to read by her own. And the Charlie and Lola series is just fun to read and very educational on social skills building, especially for those who have siblings.

I Wish That I Had Duck Feet

I wish that I had Duck Feet
I wish I had a long, long tail.
Some day I will, I hope.
And I'll show the kids in town new ways to jump a rope!

Another silly title from Dr. Seuss with lots of imagination for kids.
I Wish That I Had Duck Feet follows one little guy's dreams of borrowing all sorts of useful appendages from the animal world. But each time he imagines something new--those duck feet, a prickly pair of deer horns perfect for playing football, a spraying whale spout to keep his classroom cool--he realizes that it's not always all it's cracked up to be.

This is a great classic from Dr. Seuss for everyone starting the age of 3. Children will love this story and start to read by their own later on.

Father's Day Is Coming

Level Reader

Father's Day is coming.
Bobo wants a present for his dad.
"Cat, may I have one of your kittens?" asks Bobo.
"No," says the cat. "All of my kittens need me. I need all of them."

This is a lovely book from the I'm Going to READ series by Sterling Publishing. It has an easy to understand storyline, a rabbit named Bobo searching for the perfect present for his dad. After meeting the cat, the dog, the duck and the hen, none of them were willing to give Bobo their babies (the kitten, the puppy, the duckling and the chick) as present.

At the end, Bobo came up with a new plan - a very special hat made with feathers.

This book has wonderful word banks for kids between age 4 to 6.

Word Banks: Father's Day, coming, present, cat, kittens, dog, puppies, duck, ducklings, hen, chicks, feathers, idea, going, nice, work, hard, makes, happy, finds, thank you.
